With the demise a few decades ago of the criterion of quality control as the final stage of a process or of segments of process phases, quality is today pursued as the objective to achieve in every single step of production in order to integrate with the quality of all the other production operations. Quality is the decisive factor in the success of a company; it is sold together with the product and should be intended as a product contained inside a product. Therefore, in production, a constant and coherent quality levels is fundamental. Also of fundamental importance for the industry was the contribution of the quality philosophy of the Japanese, which we could condense into a few slogans: everything has a quality, there is a quality in everything – if everything is oriented towards quality, productivity is achieved as a consequence – if fabrication is oriented towards quality, costs are reduced – quality is sold and produces profits.
