The two Italian primary aluminium plants in Portovesme and Fusina are owned by Alcoa since 1995 when they were purchased from the state-owned Alumix. They have an average total annual production of 190 thousand tonnes, a small quantity compared with the market needs, which is more than 4 times as much, but significant to complete the value chain of the Italian industrial aluminium system.
