 Mar 14 An extrusion giant is born On September 1st the joint venture between Hydro and Orkla Sapa ASA with 50% equity stakes has been completed by merging their businesses. Specifically, the agreement includes Profili operating sector, Systems for Building and Precision Tubing as well as the whole area of Norsk Hydro ASA Extruded Products, including Domal brand. The new reality, Sapa AS, has its headquarters in Oslo, Norway; it has over 100 production units in more than 40 countries and a staff of 23,000 employees.
 Mar 14 The EU primary is not competitive A recent study by Ceps, Centre for European Policy Studies, assessed the impact of direct costs, administrative burdens and regulatory inconsistencies that the aluminium industry has been forced to support over the last decade because of EU policies about energy, climate change, environment, competition, trade and products.
Made on behalf of the European Commission and published at the beginning of November, the study surveyed 46 leading Production plants of our continent which, together, account for more than 60% of EU aluminium production.
 Mar 14 News from StaCast project On 13th-14th of November, there has been, in Milano, the official meeting between CEN TC132 (Aluminium and its alloys) representatives and the StaCast team. It has been a very useful and cooperative meeting, in which roadmap for completing successfully the project has been fixed.
 Feb 14 Aluminium, from Gulf to Europe The aluminium industry in the Gulf and Its current and future relationship with the EU will be discussed in a high level meeting organized by Gulf Aluminium Council on Wednesday, March 5th, at the prestigious Bibliotheque Solvay in Brussels.
The participants in the meeting, supported by The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Brussels Delegation, would be EU Parliament & Commission members, GCC Diplomatic representatives in Brussels, selected European Companies & business organizations, European Aluminium users & GCC Smelters top decision makers.
For the first time, a major Gulf industrial sector and top-level representatives will present itself in Brussels and discuss current and future relations and business perspectives.

 Jen 14 Italian scenario can improve As usual, in Rome, around the middle of September the seminar of Centro Studi Confindustria took place, whose purpose is to illustrate our country's economic scenario and predict its evolution in the short term, in particular considering the challenges to be faced, given the current economic policy choices.
It is useful to point out that the framework provided by CSC is affected by the same factors listed in the previous seminar: energy cost reduction, consolidation of global recovery, Government commitment and solidity represent positive elements; loss of competitiveness, poor credit, housing weakness, erosion of savings and high unemployment on the other hand, constitute a heavy brake on recovery.
